Musculoskeletal physiotherapy techniques (joint, muscle, and fascia stretching, mobilizing and manipulation) are often used for relief of pain, swelling and other uncomfortable symptoms.

The International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) defines manual therapy techniques as:

“Skilled hand movements intended to produce any or all of the following effects: improve tissue extensibility; increase range of motion of the joint complex; mobilize or manipulate soft tissues and joints; induce relaxation; change muscle function; modulate pain; and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation or movement restriction.”

Our physiotherapists have years of experience and thus a very wide repertoire of manual skills. These include manipulation, manual traction, joint mobilisation, muscle energy techniques and myofascial treatment. Our physiotherapists are all very hands on when they treat. Manual therapy can help spinal decompression to provide relief from Degenerative Disc Disease, Nerve Root Impingement, Sciatica, and Stenosis, and can be helpful for different types of Arthritis, Frozen Shoulders, and Chronic Pain.

Sports Physiotherapy requires and understanding of the injuries relating to activity, exercise and sport.

Sports Physiotherapists are experienced physiotherapists who have undertaken further training at a post-graduate University level and completed examinations by the Australian Physiotherapy Association to account for their advanced standing in the profession. We have several Sports Physiotherapists at Physiologix.

Treatment of head (headaches) and neck pain, and dizziness or balance issues (including vertigo and BPPV), and TMJ (jaw) pain is extremely complex and requires an advanced level of physio expertise. All ages and all types of person may be affected.

Neck pain can become long term, or chronic in many cases. There are many reasons why this may be. Your issues may have stemmed from whiplash in a car accident, or gradually build up over time. Your Physiologix physio will help to go through the many different causes with you, carrying out special tests and asking lots of questions to help provide the answers we need and therefore give us the direction with which to go with physiotherapy.

The shoulder is a very complex joint. Pain can be significant, disabling and extensive. Our physiotherapists have decades of experience between them. Several of our staff are involved in elite sport, including tennis, a game rife with shoulder injuries. Our staff are on the cutting edge of the latest research and rehabilitation concepts.

You will undergo a thorough assessment which helps to reveal what is causing your pain directly, but also what has lead to the injury developing. Often this includes understanding the postures and alignment you adopt when you rest, as well as when you move. Changing these can often be paramount in achieving a good outcome.

Our physiotherapists will work with your GP, specialist or orthopaedic surgeon to understand your needs and provide the optimal rehabilitation program, whether you have had surgery, corticosteroid injection, or are managing your injury conservatively.

We work with all types of shoulder injury, from rotator cuff tendinopathy or surgery, to labral tears, to bursitis, or total shoulder replacement.

To talk to one of our shoulder experts please call the clinic at any time – our staff our always delighted to try and help with any questions you may have before you book an appointment.

Physiologix has long had a special interest in treating hip injuries. Our staff have been part of many research trials investigating different hip conditions, have assisted in running hip courses around Australia for Physiotherapists, and have years of experience treating hips.

Pain around the hip can be a very disabling problem, with reduced ability to move around and do what you want to do. Keeping fit and healthy can then become an issue. Pain can be very depressing, cause sleep disturbances and have a very negative affect on your life.

The hip, pelvis and lower back are all very closely linked. Each area can refer, or send, pain to the other area. Careful assessment is needed to establish the cause of your pain. Just as important is ascertaining how the injury occurred. Both of these facts must be correctly diagnosed to ensure good treatment decisions can be made.

Pain at the side of the hip, greater trochanteric pain, often resulting from gluteus medius tendinopathy and bursitis is an area the clinic sees a large number of clients. Hip Osteoarthritis, labral tears, hip dyspasia and femero-acetabular impingement (FAI), are all commonly seen injuries. Total hip replacement and hip resurfacing are other surgeries we assist patients in recovery with.

We use the latest research and technology to help in your rehabilitation. We use careful progressive exercise to help strengthen your joint and return you to normal function, whether that be simply managing to get around the house, to returning to high level elite sport.

To talk to one of our hip experts please call the clinic at any time – our staff our always delighted to try and help with any questions you may have before you book an appointment.

Be faster, stronger and more agile!

Most people train to some level for their chosen activity or sport. However most people neglect that tennis requires flexibility, muscle strength, endurance, agility, power, acceleration, speed and good aerobic and anaerobic fitness to name a few. It is hard to sprint at 100% if you lack full ankle range of motion or don’t have the core to hold your pelvis together while your legs drive. You can't hit a controlled cross court winner or a great golf drive if you lack the core and shoulder stability. What is even worse is when you see people running out of steam three quarters of the way through a match……they lose the ability to attack, and become weak on the defence.

As athletes, parents and coaches it is extremely hard to pick up on these inefficiencies and even harder to be able to effectively fix them.

The Sports Specific Performance Screen (SSPS) is a revolutionary approach to peak performance. The SSPS compiles baseline measurements off the back of a series of specialised tests. These tests combine to give you a tailored ‘Performance Profile’ of your physical joint and muscle capabilities and how well your body moves during basic and complex motor skills.

An individualised home exercise program can be made for the athlete that targets the relevant finding from the SSPS process. With guidance from the physiotherapist the athlete will carry out the specific exercise program which may include strengthening, stretches, motor skill learning and sports specific movement retraining.

Follow-up screens are also recommended to monitor improvement and make sure the athlete is continually being challenged.

For more information on our Sports Specific Performance Screen please contact our reception staff or email the clinic directly.

Understanding the joints of the lower limb and how they function together requires an advanced knowledge. Physiologix and its staff has been involved in many research studies of this area and can bring you the most up to date in treatment to ensure your recovery.

We work with all injuries, from ACL repairs, to meniscal tears, to ankle sprain, Achilles tendinopathy and plantar fasciatis.

We use hands on physiotherapy treatment in much of what we do. We are based in a gym, have a separate rehabilitation area full of Pilates and other specialist rehab equipment, use video analysis and other specific technologies to assist in your recovery. At Physiologix, you will have the benefit not just of highly experienced staff, but incredible facilities to help get your legs back into full working gear.

To talk to one of our knee, foot and ankle experts, please call the clinic at any time – our staff our always delighted to try and help with any questions you may have before you book an appointment.

Working with kids and adolescents requires a very specific knowledge not only of the injuries these age group can experience that adults don’t, but also a much deeper understanding of the psychological impact their injury and situation is having on them, which is again very, very different to that of an adult.

All the all the massage and physiotherapists at Physiologix have further training qualifications and a specific interest in these age groups. Several of our therapist work with young elite athletes. But we work with everyone, from the very sporty, to the non-sporty.

Hypermobility is an issue that can plague many younger people. Our staff have spend many hours developing rehabilitation strategies and programs specific to this group.

Early intervention is key. These are the formative years for your kids. It is essential you help give them the best physical (and psychological) opportunities you can. We are here to help and support you with this.

Dry Needling is the use of acupuncture needles to manipulate trigger points within a muscle. It is a specialised tool, used to deactivate trigger points and thus increase range of movement & decrease pain. It is used to treat many musculoskeletal conditions including back pain, sporting injuries, hip pain and headaches. It differs to acupuncture in that Dry Needling is more anatomically based, and focuses on specific areas of concern, as assessed by the clinician.
